Smoke Detector Installation

Smoke detector installation is crucial to the safety of your home and family.  A smoke detector is a device that is installed throughout your home that automatically detect the presence of smoke in case of fire. When is the last time you checked your smoke detectors? The American Red Cross recommends testing your smoke detectors’ batteries once a month. 3,000 Americans die every year in residential fires.  Three of every five home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms (38%) or no working smoke alarms (21%).  The death rate per 100 reported home fires was more than twice as high in homes that did not have any working smoke alarms compared to the rate in homes with working smoke alarms

Whether choosing battery or hardwired smoke detectors, these devices should be installed on every level of a home, especially close to sleeping areas. Hardwired detectors are often interconnected, meaning if there is an alarm in one area that is activated, all detectors go off to become a whole house fire alarm. It is recommended that smoke detectors should be changed once every decade.

CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS

Carbon monoxide is a tasteless, odorless gas that is impossible to detect without a monitoring device. Moreover, it is produced in many ways with the most common way being fuel combustion during heating and cooking. Combustion engines like those are found in automobiles, snow throwers and lawnmowers, which create carbon monoxide while in use. Blocked chimneys, broken flues or damaged furnace heat exchanges can also allow carbon monoxide gases to enter the home.
